As we are undertaking spring cleaning, yard clean-up and general work around our outdoor spaces, check on the condition of your house address. As a city we need to make sure our homes and businesses have clear and visible street addresses. It is so very important to be able to see a street address. Emergency vehicles, be it a fire truck, ambulance, or police need to know where they should be going. In an emergency situation, minutes and seconds can be the difference in a successful outcome. It would be tragic if an emergency vehicle spent precious minutes looking for a house because it had no visible address. In a small community many people believe that everyone knows where everyone lives, but the truth is we have new people regularly moving into town. Also, we have new personnel at the fire department, ambulance and police department that might not have that “old timer” knowledge. It just makes the emergency person’s job finding that residence so much easier to have an address instead of “the old Johnson house by the school”. In that scenario, my goal would be to make it as easy as possible for them to find my house, indeed, my life or the life of someone close to me might be at stake. This is true for our businesses also. Please make sure your address in visible. This is really an important public safety issue. In each and every case saving a few minutes could be crucial. There will be more information about this initiative in coming weeks, but now I would like each and every homeowner and business owner to evaluate their own building for proper address signage. Our whole community would be safer.
