Please join me at Master’s Coffee Shop on Wednesday, April 17 at noon. I will be declaring April as Sexual Assault Awareness Month. Master’s is donating 100% of the regular coffee and tea sales to our local Safe Avenues which is the main contact for information about sexual assault. The figures are amazing. 1 in 5 women and 1 in 71 men will be raped sometime in their life. 1 in 6 boys and 1 in 3 girls will experience a sexual assault before they are 18 years old. To confront these statistics, it is the responsibility of each person to educate themselves and family and friends about this issue. We also need to examine ourselves for attitudes that may allow this kind of behavior. We have a duty to ourselves and our community and our nation to engage in education, discussion and action on preventing sexual violence. So please join me on Wednesday, April 17th, have a cup of coffee or tea and make a difference in this effort.
